Redwood Burl

Edition Size: Open

Size: Varies

Price: $100/verticle inch of one heart

The Interlocking Hearts

started out as a whittling challenge back in the 1970's and since then have evolved into one of my most popular sales. They are carved from a single piece of Redwood Burl, and each time it's a challenge to get them to separate without breaking them, but I've gotten pretty good at it. They have been used as wedding presents, anniversary presents, Christmas gifts, table ornaments, and, in the case of the hearts featured at the top of the page, as a prop for ABC television's soap opera, "One Life to Live."

Each set
is unique and carved to the specifications of the client. Since there are no two pieces of burl that are the same, even if they are the same size and shape as another set, they are going to be distinctly different than any other set ever carved.

The price
is based on the size of one of the hearts, measured in terms of the verticle height. I have carved hearts as small as 1/2 " high, and as large as 7" high, and they each have their own personality and feel. The average size of most of them, though, has been around two inches high, and comfortably fits in the hand. They are fun to play with and lend a different view as they settle into a variety of different companionable nestlings.

A Certificate of Authenticity and a Transfer of Original Artworks accompany this sculpture if requested. There is a printing and handling charge of $25 per set of documents and they are suitable for framing if desired.
