Wood
is a very versatile medium, and from ancient times one of its main uses was as a material for functional practicality. Obviously it's used in home construction, furniture, cabinetry, and doors, but those are covered in other pages. Here is where you'll see some of the other uses that have come up in my exploration of wood as a bridge between the utilitarian and artistic realms.
Unfortunately, much of my work in this arena was done long ago, and I have no pictures of any of it. I did a lot of work for an antique automobile restorer, for instance, that included a cowling for a 1926 Ford, a bumper emblem for a 1929 Packard, and a steering wheel cap for a 1953 Mercedes, and there is no record of any of that. I made an apple press that was carved, a very elaborate bead loom for a seamstress, and a lot of architectural adornments, like drawer handles, signs, and so on, none of which I have pictures of either, as they were just work for hire at the time, and gone as soon as they were finished.
For what it's worth, I still do commissioned work, and enjoy the challenge of fulfilling someone else's dreams and visions. Inquiries along these lines are always more than welcome.
