Woodcarving
is my first love. There is too much of a history to put down here in full, but it took over my life for many years. I traveled throughout Europe for a year, learning how to carve, with my main focus being the woodcarving school (Schnitzlerschule) in Brienz, Switzerland. Upon my return to America I found that there wasn't much demand for it, outside of carving doors and furniture, so I did that until I was rudely woken up to the reality of how badly one can get ripped off as an artist. Some of my designs are in office buildings all over the world, and the royalties go to someone else. That was the end of carving and art for me for about 15 years, so what you see here are, for the most part, all early works. Still, this is the base of my working in three dimensions, and the beginnings of my sculpture. |
