are all around us and are magical, mystical and natural. A landscape may rise into the sky or sink into a sea, be a lake or a mountain peak, a forest or a desert so the variety can be unlimited. There is an exquisiteness of beauty in the simple as well as the complex. A line or a form can be found that creates a certain harmony and balance within one's inner self.
Nature has an infinite variety of form, shape and line as well as intensity of color, tone, and shade, all of which make up the tools of the visual artist. Landscapes, painted by some of the most famous artists, have a special quality that invites one to walk right into the scene, experience the feeling of that moment in time. Photography is a means to capture that particular instant in four-dimensional space and time and convert it to a two-dimensional rendering. The art of photography comes from both the taking of the picture and the processing after it's taken. Converting an image to a digital form allows a very wide latitude in the final processing and that can be an artform in itself.
These are representative images meant to emit a special feeling; portray a uniqueness of the day, and illustrate the spectacular color and form of nature. I hope you enjoy the moment in time that I offer for your peace and tranquility.
The photo above was taken at Mt. Diablo, which is east of Oakland, California. What is normally one of the best views in the state, looking across the Central Valley and into the throat of Yosemite, was foggy that day, but it was an interesting picture on its own. For some reason it took on this purple cast and that made it awesome to me. This has not been altered from the original slide taken with a Nikon F 35mm film camera.
